[ChatAction] Metamorphosis and transformation

Hi again.

 

I just now flipped on the TV here, to the PBS New Hour – and the host was interviewing fabled filmmaker David Attenborough.

 

In his last words, in answer to a question from the interviewer about whether he is a “optimist”, and speaking of what to him is very obviously an acute global crisis, he said very emphatically

 

“If we are going to solve it WE MUST ACT AS ONE!”

 

That’s my mantra as well.  Don’t screw around with lesser ideas, it’s a waste of time on a dangerously sluggish learning curve.

 

His Wikipedia page states that he is an agnostic.

 

We can strongly and absolutely assert ONE and unity, without being hung up in religion.  Or – because it is a very plausible argument – we can vitalize and rejuvenate religion – it can be pretty good stuff when it’s tuned in.  Tuned up the right way, it could be a major global power-vector for aligning collaborative work across all cultures and traditions.

Oh, and now on KCET, the oriental news program NHK is saying that “Collaboration provides a path out of the pandemic”.   People working together in smoothly coordinated harmony.  Where does that resonant understanding come from?

 

I think it comes from people getting cool and real.  Poor people always figure it out first.  They have to love each other to stray alive.  Arrogant backbiting is a luxurious feature of too-comfortable cultures.

Thought you might find this graphic interesting.

 

This emerged a couple of years ago when I was working closely with a group called “World Summit” – I think Troy Wiley drew or designed much of this, and I have always really liked it.

 

This, too, is a “12 sectors of the wheel” model, and it shows the all-important convergence process as categorical differences tend to merge into unity.

 

And of course, it builds on the famous butterfly/metamorphosis images.

 

I’m inclined to diagram this kind of social transformation in much more detail – but it’s great to have a good image of the big picture.  I don’t if I have seen an image I like better.
