Subject: Welcome!

I am writing today to acknowledge that we have received your request to be put on our newsletter list. We would like to share some additional information on the Charter for Compassion and how you might become more involved in our work.

The original Charter for Compassion grew out of two major events: the 2008 Seeds of Compassion held in Seattle, WA with the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and a number of other notables in the fields of interfaith, education, research, healthcare, and peace initiatives; and the awarding of the TED prize to Karen Armstrong. Her wish—to help create, launch, and propagate a Charter for Compassion. After much work and the contribution of thousands of people, the Charter was unveiled to the world on November 12, 2009.

Today the CFC is a movement that works with over 400 cities, in 54 countries who are creating multi-year strategic plans leading to compassionate action. In addition, we work with close to 2500 partners in twelve sectors (art, business, education, environment, healthcare, religion/spiritual/interfaith, peace initiatives, restorative justice, science and research, social services, social justice and women and girls). Being a partner costs nothing monetarily, but it is our goal to bring together partners who understand the importance of compassion, kindness, and cooperation within their organizations, and would be open to acknowledging their association with the Charter. Each partner receives a page on our website which is linked back to their own site. We also have partner sector newsletters, maintain a Partner Facebook page, and have bi-monthly hour-long partner calls. A significant number of collaborations have started among our partner organizations.

If you are associated with an organization in any of the sectors named we want you to be a Charter for Compassion Partner:http://www.charterforcompassion.org/index.php/partners/partner-sector. Your material will link back to your own website, and also to your partner page on our website. Our community of members is over 120,000, and we have a robust Facebook presence with visits of close to a half-million each week.

Please join our campaign to get one million new affirmations to the Charter for Compassion by November 12, 2020 commemorating the tenth year in which the Charter was launched! You can do this by encouraging your community members to read the Charter for Compassion<https://charterforcompassion.org/charter> and sign. Gather signatures in religious congregations, at public gatherings, at universities and colleges, and in local businesses. We encourage everyone to read and sign the Charter directly on the Charter website (or to find a volunteer who would be willing to electronically sign on behalf of others' handwritten signatures), but if necessary, we've attached a contact information form that you may send to us (P.O. Box 10787, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

Compassionate Communities and Cities: Any individual, group, or organization that recognizes the need for greater compassion in a community is encouraged to begin the process for creating a Compassionate Community. Please contact us if you are interested in working with others in your area.

Finally, because you are interested in helping us to extend the work that we are doing in cities and communities around the world, we ask that you consider making a monthly contribution (or a one time gift)<https://charterforcompassion.org/donate>, if at all possible. If everyone on our mailing list would consider donating the cost of a cup of coffee each month for the year, our efforts towards a more compassionate global community could truly flourish and substantially extend our outreach.

We look forward to working closely with you.

With kind regards,

Marcelle Kors, Newsletter Coordinator
